In recent times, I have taken to having a one-purpose backpack that does the job for going to work, a weekend away, going to training, or longer trips abroad. In my eagerness to have a one-for-all backpack, last year I had everything from my laptop, go-pro, ipad, phone, speaker, clothes, shoes, and training equipment in this bag of tricks. All very well until someone robbed the bag and all its contents and left me with very little technology!
Anyway, I got over that and replaced the backpack and some of the stuff. Last month, I was heading on a week long trip to the Basque Country, and endeavoured to only bring my new pack on as carry-on luggage, making for a faster pass through the airports, and also avoiding bringing too much stuff!
I wore a pair of black Levi’s, T-shirt, jumper, and a pair on Converse to the airport, and here is what I brought with me in my bag:
Clothes:
- Shorts x 1
- Light Jacket x 1
- Swimming togs x 1
- Shirt x 1
- T-Shirt x 4
- Boxers x 3
- Socks x 3
- Hat x 1
- Hiking Boots x 1
Electronics:
- Kindle + Charger
- IPad + Charger
- Small camera + charger
Toiletries:
- Toothbrush
- Tooth paste
- Hair gel
- Sun cream
- Small towel
Training gear:
- Gymnastic rings
- Chalk
Other stuff:
- Passport
- Driving License
- Small black notebook
- Folder with travel document
- Basque country travel guide
- Aeropress + Coffee grinder
I used everything that I brought, and had a few dry bags that I used to pack the clothes (clean and dirty in different bags) as the week went on. In hindsight, I would have brought some mozzie spray to keep those pesky little critters at bay! The backpack that I used was a 72 hour 5.11 backpack, that was recommended to me by a lot of people at Ido Portal’s Movement Camp in 2014. Here’s to more single-bag trips!
